El Vergel
Vergel village on the north coast of Alicante, Spain.
Located close to the Mediterranean sea, with around 5,000 inhabitants. The municipality of Vergel, 8.16 km2, occupies part of the Girona river delta that forms a large area of irrigation specializing in citrus. North of the town is the mountain Segaria of 6 km in length. Most of the term is devoted to irrigated cultivation (vegetables and oranges).
The service sector, especially development and construction of housing estates, has boosted the economy of this town and its tourism development, the food industry is another significant business activity of the municipality. This location is accessed by road from Alicante via the N-332 or the highway of the Mediterranean, exit in Ondara.
Festivals in Vergel; The festivity is celebrated from August 10 in honor of San Roque and Our Lady of the Rosary. It also highlights the entrance of La Murta, floats, parades of Moors and Christians, the Offering of Flowers to the Patron, the popular “l’Aigua war,” the patron saints procession, which concludes with the fireworks display and bullrunning in the streets (Bous al Carrer).
Vergel Village borders with Beniarbeig, Benimeli, Denia, Ondara and Els Poblets.
